Congrats, Jessie Tenney

Last week Jessie tempted fate by taking her board certification for nursing on Friday the 13th . This mother of all tests is given on a computer, has 275 questions and can take up to six hours to complete! She found out Monday that she passed her test and is now a full fledged registered nurse. Jessie graduated this winter with an associates degree in psychology and a nursing degree. She is employed at Montefiore Hospital, part of the UPMC Health System. Good Luck Jessie and keep up the good work. We couldn't be more proud of you!

Marcella Tenney

Marcella Tenney is the little known, younger sister of George L. (Boppy) Tenney. According to City of Pittsburgh birth records Marcella was born June 13, 1903 to George A. of Philadelphia and Sarah Welsh of Washington County. George and Sarah were living at 6 Soho Street when Marcella was born. In the 1910 Federal census, she is listed as Aurella. In later years, on George's Civil War pension application, he lists Marcella as having died at 10 years of age. Although there is no marker, she is buried with her parents in Calvary Cemetery.

Olive Brophy Tenney

Olive Brophy Tenney

Olive was born on May 18, 1900 to Thomas Martin Brophy and Elizabeth Brown at 1327 Penn Avenue in the 9th ward of Pittsburgh. On January 13, 1925 Olive married George Leo Tenney at St. Patrick's Church in Pittsburgh's Strip District. I'm not sure how or where they met since in 1920 Olive lived at 2117 Liberty Avenue and worked as a clerk for the milk company while George was living in Oakland at 340 Kennett Square and worked as a clerk for a railroad so they didn't work together and were not neighbors. I would imagine she looked a lot like this when she met George. During their 38 years of marriage they had three children, George Gabriel, Richard Edmund and Margaret. Olive passed away September 22, 1975 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery.
